A placeholder image stands in for a real picture while you build a layout or a mockup. This generator draws a flat rectangle at the exact pixel size you ask for and writes text in the center. If you leave the text field empty, it prints the dimensions, for example 800 x 600, which makes it easy to see the size of each slot in a design.
The default size is 800 by 600 pixels. Preset buttons set common sizes in one click: 1920 by 1080, 1280 by 720, 800 by 600, 500 by 500 and 1080 by 1080. You can also type any width and height. The text is bold sans-serif, and its size is based on the smaller side of the image, with a minimum of 20 pixels. The default background is a light slate gray and the default text color is a darker slate, and both can be changed with color pickers.
The image updates live as you change any value. When you download, the file is a PNG named with the size, such as placeholder-800x600.png.
The picture is drawn on a canvas in your browser. No image is requested from an outside service and nothing is uploaded.
