How to use
- Paste the original text into the main text box.
- Open the Diff tab and paste the revised text into the Compare text box.
- Read the list of changed lines: lines starting with a plus sign were added, lines starting with a minus sign were removed.
The text diff tool compares two pieces of text line by line. The original is whatever is in the main text box, and the second version goes into the Compare text box on the Diff tab. The differences appear as soon as either box changes.
Under the hood the tool finds the longest set of lines the two texts have in common, then reports everything else. Lines that appear only in the revised text are shown with a plus sign and a green background. Lines that appear only in the original are shown with a minus sign and a red background. Lines that are identical in both are not listed, so the output stays short even for long documents.
A badge above the result shows how many lines differ. If the two texts match exactly, it says no differences were found.
Comparison is exact and works on whole lines. A line that has changed by a single character is reported as one removed line and one added line, with no highlighting inside the line. Capitalisation and spacing count as differences, so a trailing space on a line makes it a different line. Because line breaks define the units, text that is wrapped differently in the two versions will show many changes even when the wording is the same.
Both texts stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to compare them.
FAQ
Does it highlight changes inside a line?
No. It compares whole lines. A modified line appears as the old line marked with a minus and the new line marked with a plus.
Why do identical-looking lines show as different?
Comparison is exact. Differences in capitalisation, trailing spaces or tabs make lines unequal.
Are unchanged lines shown?
No. Only added and removed lines are listed, which keeps the result short.
Is my text uploaded for comparison?
No. The comparison is calculated in your browser.
